We are lobbying to stop surveillance in Staunton right now, sign our petition to do your part to end this violation of the 4th Amendment !
At livefreeva.org, our mission is to end the surveillance cameras, primarily Automated License Plate Readers, operated by cities and counties of Virginia. We are currently focused on cities in Rockingham, Albemarle and Augusta Counties. See the Our Next Step section to email Staunton VA City Council Members !
Currently Staunton has 6 fixed ALPR's with 3 more planned. Bridgewater, Charlottesville and Harrisonburg all have more. Below is a link to a map to see how many your city has. This map is in no way exhaustive and it can be added to if you'd like.
The Next meeting is Thursday December 11th at 7pm at Staunton city hall (116 W. Beverly St.) as we oppose License Plate Readers in the city. At the last meeting we were told "we are listening" by multiple council members.
WE MUST KEEP UP THE PRESSURE!

According to https://www.fauquiernow.com/ on October 14, 2025 the city of Warrenton, Virginia voted to "permanently suspend all future discussion and consideration of the Warrenton Police Department’s proposal to install automated license plate reader cameras...". In a 5-1 vote, with one council member being absent.
The council did not vote on the matter during its Sept. 9 meeting. Instead, a “head nod discussion” directed the Public Safety Committee and the Chief of Police to hold discussions with the community and return with a report within two months.
Apparently it took only one month to decide after the time was taken to talk with Warrenton citizens
